Farmlab launched!

Indoor Farm commissioned!

It’s been 6 months of research and intensive craftsmanship – now our farmlab farming container has finally been launched on June 18th!

Thanks to our team that renovated the container, selected the systems, installed the electricity and piping, we are now able to launch the first indoor farm in Düsseldorf (at least as far as we know)

From now on, we will have the capacity to grow 650 lettuce heads, varieties of basils and other herbs in a controlled environment.

We will also use the container as a place for experimentation and business model development, so stay tuned for further additions and our first harvest to be celebrated in August.

Why we chose NFT as our main hydroponic system

Hydroponics is our method of choice when it comes to plant cultivation techniques in a vertical farming approach.

Our goal is to incorporate vertical farming into a small container. We will be using a hydroponic method called Nutrient Film Technique (NFT).

Hydroponic crop yields

With Tower Gardens we are able to uniformly test hydroponic crop yields across multiple towers.

We will be measuring the harvested weight of various crop types. Currently we are testing: baby leaf lettuce, head lettuce, red leaf lettuce, arugula, mustard leaf, mint, basil, and parsley.

Rockwool Growth Media: Does size matter?

I recently published an article outlining my experiences with the Tower Gardens. When I first planted in our Tower Garden I found it to be quite a messy endeavour, as the small rockwool growth media I used required us to fill the plant baskets with clay pebbles that were difficult to evenly distribute.

Tower Gardens: a review

We were given the opportunity to test the Tower Gardens hydroponic growing system for our first phase of the farmlab.one growing project. I will provide a review of our experience using Tower Gardens with the objective to assist individuals in choosing a hydroponic farming system that fits their needs.
